Dear Staff:

The divisions of Student Assistance, Student Affairs, and Student Success have collaborated in order to better serve our Veteran students.  We will also be reaching out to faculty and staff who may have served in the military as well to serve as “military friendly” mentors to our Veteran Students. The specific services and programs offered to our Veteran students will include academic success workshops, a specialized orientation to help Veterans transition from military life to the university, and Brandon McCluskey, Student Success Advisor will serve as the main contact for our Veteran students after they are certified by the Office of Student Assistance and Financial Aid.  A few of our Veteran students are hoping to be a recognized student organization next spring so they can join the national organization and offer the benefits of the national organization to our Veteran students. As we create new programs and services for our Veteran Students we will be updating the Veterans website.

There is a new course that may be offered in Fall 2011.  Dean Lisa Bardill-Moscaritollo has been asked to teach and wanted the staff to know of the class.

Introduction to Student Affairs/Student Services
In this class you will be introduced to the student affairs/services profession. Topics covered in this class include the history of student affairs work, frameworks for student affairs and services in higher education, professional practice in student affairs, student development, student identities and student learning, professionalizing student affairs, accountability, professional standards and ethics, professional associations, and legal issues in higher education. We will also review recent case studies in the field of student affairs.

Earth Month Activities

There is a calendar for all the Earth Month activities planned for April at http://www.pace.edu/dyson/earthmonth. There are over 30 activities from tree planting, demonstrations, and walks to talks about bees, hydrofracking, and a poetry reading.

Relay for Life

Dear faculty and staff:

Please support your faculty and staff relay for life team. Here is how you can help! Feel free to do as much or as little as you can…but everyone can do something!

1) Help at this year’s bake sale in Miller Hall on Tuesday, April 5, 11 am – 6 pm and Wednesday, 13, 8 am – 2 pm. Bake some goodies or come out and buy something delicious – send your students, too!
2) Wear the color purple on Wednesday, April 13! This will be the day students will be painting the campus purple.
3) Sign up to be part of the team and join us for Relay for Life on Friday, April 29, 4 pm – 4 am. Opening ceremonies start at 6 pm. To join our team…http://www.relayforlife.org/PaceUniversity. Click on “sign up” and select the “Faculty and Staff Fight Back” team.
4) Purchase a paper foot for a $1 that you will see posted around many of the offices on the campus.

The February Meeting minutes have been posted on the new Drupal pages at https://drupal.pace.edu/wasc/february-4-2011-minutes.  These new pages will go live on March 1st but I wanted you to have the opportunity to see the minutes in advance of that launch date.
